The Loft Distillery District Wedding Photos in Toronto | Tanya and Alex

August 7, 2018 Diego Moura
Bride and groom share a joyful first dance under chandeliers and twinkle lights at The Loft in Toronto’s Distillery District.

The Loft Distillery District Wedding Photos in Toronto

If you want a Toronto wedding venue that already feels like a movie set, The Distillery District is always a yes.

The brick buildings, cobblestone streets, old industrial textures, warm lights, and little alleyways make it one of those places where you do not have to force the photos. You just have to pay attention, move around a bit, and let the couple actually enjoy the day.

Tanya and Alex chose The Loft for their Distillery District wedding, and it ended up being the perfect mix of emotional, stylish, relaxed, and very ready to party. It was also my first wedding in the Distillery District, which makes this one extra special for me. Some weddings quietly change the way you see a place. This was one of those.

Getting Ready at Chelsea Hotel in Downtown Toronto

The day started at Chelsea Hotel in downtown Toronto, which worked perfectly for the morning because everyone was close by and the energy was already building before we even headed to the Distillery District.

Alex got ready with his brother, who flew in from Portugal, and you could feel how close they are right away. It was not overly dramatic or staged. Just two brothers hanging out, getting ready, laughing, adjusting jackets, fixing little details, and slowly realizing, okay, this is actually happening today. Those are always some of my favourite getting ready photos. Not because they are loud, but because they are honest.

A couple doors down, Tanya was getting ready with her mom, aunt, and maid of honour. Her room had a totally different energy, louder in the best way, full of laughing, music, movement, and all the beautiful chaos that makes a wedding morning feel alive.

Hair and makeup by Laila Jamal had Tanya looking stunning, but still completely herself. That is always the sweet spot. Polished, ready, glowing, but not like the person disappeared under the wedding day version of themselves.

A Private First Look Before the Distillery District

Before heading to The Loft, Tanya and Alex did a private first look near the hotel. I love first looks because they give couples one small pocket of calm before the day starts moving fast. Weddings can be amazing, but they are also full. Full of people, hugs, timelines, family, vendors, emotions, and a million tiny things happening at the same time. A first look gives you a second to breathe.

Alex was waiting, trying to play it cool, but you could tell he was feeling it. Tanya walked up behind him, tapped his shoulder, and the second he turned around, everything softened. Big smiles, happy nerves, instant relief. That is the good stuff.

Not every couple needs a first look, but if you are planning a wedding at The Loft or anywhere in the Distillery District, it can be a great way to make the timeline feel smoother. You get more time for portraits, you can relax before the ceremony, and you actually get to spend more of the day together.

Wedding Photos in the Distillery District

After the first look, we headed to the Distillery District for wedding portraits. And yes, it was busy. The Distillery District is almost always busy, especially during wedding season, but that is part of the challenge and part of the fun. You just have to move with it, find the right corners, wait for the little windows, and keep the couple focused on each other instead of the crowd.

Tanya and Alex made that easy. They walked, laughed, leaned into each other, and trusted the process. Nothing felt stiff. Nothing felt overly posed. It was just the two of them enjoying the fact that they were finally there, dressed up, surrounded by this iconic Toronto backdrop, about to get married.

For wedding photos, the Distillery District gives you so much variety without needing to go far. You have red brick, black metal, cobblestone streets, clean lines, tucked away corners, old doors, warm light, and that industrial Toronto character that photographs so well. It is one of the best spots in the city for couples who want wedding photos that feel creative but still real.

Why The Loft Works So Well for a Distillery District Wedding

The Loft is such a good fit for couples who want a wedding venue that feels intimate, warm, and connected to the city.

It has that classic Distillery District character without feeling too formal. The room has warm lighting, beautiful chandeliers, and a cozy atmosphere that works really well for both the ceremony and reception. It does not feel cold or empty. It feels like a space where people naturally settle in, get comfortable, and start having a good time. From a photography perspective, that matters.

Some venues look beautiful when they are empty, but do not hold the energy of a wedding day that well. The Loft does. It feels romantic during the ceremony, relaxed during dinner, and then completely switches gears once the party starts. That is exactly what happened here.

Ceremony and Reception at The Loft

Tanya and Alex’s ceremony at The Loft was emotional, heartfelt, and full of the kind of little reactions I always look for. The hands being held a little tighter. The family watching from the side. The small laughs in between the bigger moments. The quiet looks that happen so fast you could miss them if you are not paying attention.

After the ceremony, the room shifted into reception mode, and the whole night opened up. Speeches brought the perfect mix of laughter and tears. People were fully present, which always makes the photos better. No one was just sitting there waiting for the next thing. They were reacting, talking, cheering, hugging, and living in it.

Then DJ Scottify got the dance floor going, and once it started, it stayed full. That is always one of my favourite parts of a wedding day. The formal part is done, the nerves are gone, and everyone finally lets loose. The Loft has the right kind of space for that energy. It feels close, warm, and packed in the best way.

My First Distillery District Wedding

This wedding will always have a special place in my brain because it was my first time photographing a wedding in the Distillery District. And what a way to start. Tanya and Alex gave me everything I love about weddings. Real emotion, good people, a beautiful Toronto venue, creative portrait locations, a strong party, and a couple who were not trying to make the day perfect every second. They were just in it. That is what makes wedding photos feel alive.

Looking back, this wedding was also the start of my love for photographing Distillery District weddings. Since then, I have been back many times for weddings at The Loft, Archeo, Cluny Bistro, and other spaces in the neighbourhood, and it still remains one of the best areas in Toronto for wedding photography. There is just something about it.

Planning a Wedding at The Loft in the Distillery District?

If you are planning a wedding at The Loft and want photos that feel candid, creative, emotional, and not overly posed, this venue gives us a lot to work with.

You can get beautiful portraits right outside the venue, keep the timeline simple, and still have a gallery that feels full of variety. The Distillery District gives you texture, mood, and atmosphere without needing to leave the neighbourhood.

And if you are nervous in front of the camera, that is totally normal. Most couples are. My job is to guide you when you need it, let the real moments happen when they are better than anything posed, and make the whole thing feel way more fun than awkward.

If you are getting married at The Loft, Archeo, Cluny Bistro, or anywhere in the Distillery District, reach out through my contact page and tell me what you are planning.

I would love to hear about it.

Archeo Distillery District Wedding - Heather and Salar

Salar and Heather contacted us to photograph their wedding ceremony that took place a few weeks ago. The venue they chose for their wedding was Archeo at Distillery District. This wasn't the first time I had photographed a wedding at Archeo, Heather and Salar could not have picked a better place for the special day, it’s one our favorite venue in Toronto, not only because of the Distillery District has so many spots for great photos, but Archeo has one of the best food and lovely people working at.
