Prince Edward County Engagement Shoot
I am always down for an adventure, especially when that adventure takes us out to Prince Edward County, and it’s for an engagement shoot with an awesome couple. Kim and Milan, were so pumped for the shoot when they came to pick us up for the long drive. They just couldn’t wait to get at Prince Edward County and relive one of the best days of their life, when Milan proposed to Kim during their stay at the Drake Devonshire in Prince Edward County, the most romantic and luxurious hotels and venues in the area.
Our adventure for the day had two planned stops – the Drake Devonshire and a winery, however, not all adventures go according to plan and sometimes you just have to make the best of it, and I gotta say, it ended up being one heck of a day…
Drake Devonshire Engagement Shoot
The engagement shoot was planned for mid-April, a time when nature has usually already awoken from its winter slumber and everything around starts to blossom, yet this mid-April day was a little bit different. When we arrived at the Drake Devonshire, the first stop of our adventure, the weather was calm, albeit a little gloomy and cold. We decided to start the shoot indoors with the hopes that the sun will come out in the meantime. When shooting at the Drake Devonshire, there is never a lack of unique and edgy spots to create stunning portraits, so I got straight to work. Kim and Milan were cuddled by the fire while I played with reflections, which made for an amazing creative photo. They played a competitive game of ping-pong as I zoomed around them, trying to keep up, and they explored the hotel halls, because at the Drake Devonshire, every nook and cranny could be holding a fun surprise, whether it’s an outstanding light fixture or a stunningly vibrant wallpaper.
After a quick, yet incredibly delicious, lunch in the Dinning Room where we enjoyed phenomenal lakeside views, we headed outside for portraits despite the less than sunny weather. In fact, not only was it not sunny, but it had started to snow! The snow brought an unexpected yet beautiful and peaceful element to the shoot, and when paired with the vibrant colors of Kim and Milan’s outfits and the bold patio decor of the Drake Devonshire, the result was absolutely stunning!
Karlo Estates Winery Engagement Photos
Now, the next stop on our engagement shoot adventure with Kim and Milan was a winery. But, that soft and gently snowfall that we started with on the patio at the Drake Devonshire had by now turned into a full-blown winter snowstorm….in the middle of April. The winery we initially planned to visit had to close as the road conditions were that bad. We had a choice, give up and drive back home, or push through the weather. Being the awesome sports that they are, Kim and Milan decided to continue through with our adventure and they found a winery, Karlo Estates, that was remaining open for a small private function and was willing to host us for the shoot.
When we got there, shooting outside was out of the question. It was storming so hard that it physically hurt to be outside for even a moment. Thankfully, the hospitality at Karlo Estates proved to be exceptional, and they not only treated us to a wine tasting, but they also gave us full freedom to enjoy, explore, and capture Kim and Milan’s engagement photos in their winery.
Kim and Milan, thank you for introducing us to the stunning Prince Edward County. We have since been back to the County on multiple occasions – from Sandra and Anthony’s Prince Edward County engagement shoot to Joe and Glen’s wedding at the Drake Devonshire, and it has since become one of my favorite places to shoot at and just be.
And of course, thank you for inviting us to capture your adventure to your happily ever after. Your One King West wedding was a dream day we were honored to be a part of. Thank you!
