Choosing your wedding shoes sounds simple… until it’s not. Most couples think it’s just about style. Something that looks good, matches the outfit, and that’s it. But after photographing so many weddings, I can tell you this:
👉 your shoes matter way more than you think.
Not just for how you look. But for how you feel. And how your day actually flows.
Your Wedding Shoes Will Affect Your Entire Day
You’re going to be standing, walking, running around, dancing… Sometimes for 10+ hours. If your shoes are uncomfortable, you will feel it everywhere:
during your ceremony
during portraits
during the reception
And it shows in photos too. You move differently. You tense up. You lose that natural flow.
How Wedding Shoes Show Up in Photos
Here’s something most people don’t think about:
👉 your shoes are in way more photos than you expect
getting ready
walking down the aisle
couple portraits
candid moments
dance floor
If your shoes don’t match your vibe, it stands out.
Comfort First (Always)
I’ll say it straight: 👉 comfort > everything
You can have the most beautiful shoes in the world, but if you can’t walk in them, they’re not worth it.
Some of my couples:
bring a second pair
switch after the ceremony
wear sneakers for portraits
And honestly… those are usually the best photos.
Think About Your Venue
Your venue changes everything.
👉 Outdoor wedding?
heels might not work
think wedges or flats
👉 City wedding?
you’ll walk more than you expect
👉 Venue like Casa Loma or Eglinton Grand?
stairs
long hallways
lots of movement
👉 Your shoes need to match your environment
Style Still Matters (but in a different way)
This doesn’t mean ignore style. It means:
👉 choose something that feels like you
Your wedding is not the day to wear something that doesn’t match your personality.
Some of my favourite choices:
clean classic heels
bold statement shoes
sneakers with personality
barefoot outdoor ceremonies
Pro Tip From a Photographer
If you want better photos:
👉 break your shoes in BEFORE the wedding
Walk in them. Move in them. Get comfortable. Because the best photos happen when you’re not thinking about your feet.
Final Thought
Your wedding shoes are not just a detail. They’re part of how you experience the day. If you feel good, you move better. If you move better, your photos feel real. And that’s what actually matters.
