Tobermory Engagement Photos with Carly & Mike | A Full-Day Adventure to the Grotto and Georgian Bay

Tobermory Engagement Photos

Let me tell you, Tobermory is one of the most magical places in Ontario for an engagement session — and Carly and Mike’s shoot was proof of that. With epic cliffs, turquoise water, hidden forest trails, and even a boat (yes, a boat!), this full-day shoot had it all.

We kicked things off in Tobermory village, a cozy harbor town about 3.5 hours north of Toronto. Carly and Mike made a whole weekend of it — which, honestly, is the best way to soak up everything the Bruce Peninsula has to offer. After a quick stop for ice cream (because obviously), we started wandering through the marina, dreaming of getting some shots on a docked boat. Then Carly spotted one of the boat owners nearby and, without skipping a beat, walked right up and asked if we could take some engagement photos on board. The guy said yes — love wins again! — and next thing you know, we’re capturing the dreamiest boat shots right in the harbor. The light, the setting, the views… it was the perfect start.

Hiking to the Grotto | Engagement Photos at Bruce Peninsula National Park

After the village, we set off for Bruce Peninsula National Park, one of the most breathtaking locations in Ontario. If you’ve never been, it’s a must-see. The hike to the Grotto takes you through forest trails, rocky terrain, and eventually lands you on top of cliffs that overlook the clearest water you’ll find this far north. The views? Unreal. Think Caribbean-blue waves meeting rugged cliffs and sunlit forests. Carly and Mike were up for anything — hiking, climbing, even a little champagne celebration at the edge of the cliffs. That energy, that adventurous spirit, that joy — it’s what made the whole session so real.

Sunset, Champagne, and Big Laughs

As the sun started to dip lower, Carly pulled out the champagne and suggested a re-creation of a goofy shot she loved from one of our past sessions — two glasses for her, one bottle for Mike. The photos? Pure gold. So much laughter, so many genuine moments.

We ended the session with the two of them looking out over Georgian Bay at sunset. Just quiet, peaceful, connected — the kind of moment that makes all the planning and hiking and climbing worth it.

When Couples Bring the Fun: Props + Personal Touches

One thing I always tell couples — bring something that feels like you. Carly and Mike brought champagne to celebrate their engagement, and it was such a fun, unexpected way to end the session. But here’s the wild part: after we posted these Tobermory engagement photos, so many other couples messaged me wanting to recreate that moment. The double glass + bottle combo? Instant classic. 🍾
Whether it’s champagne, a guitar, a blanket for a picnic, or your pup — personal props can totally elevate a shoot. It gives you something to do with your hands, sparks real reactions, and creates those authentic, unscripted moments that make the photos unforgettable.

Why an Outfit Change Is Always a Good Idea

If you’re planning a longer shoot — especially at an epic location like Tobermory or Bruce Peninsula — changing outfits halfway through is a total game-changer. Carly and Mike brought a second look and it made the gallery feel fresh and dynamic. One outfit worked perfectly for the marina and village vibes, and the second brought a more dramatic, coastal mood for the cliffside and Grotto shots. The shift in styling also gave them more variety and helped tell a fuller story through the session.

Pro tip? Pack something easy to slip into and plan the outfit change around a natural break in the shoot — like a hike, a location swap, or a snack break. It’ll keep the energy going and give you a whole new vibe for the second half of your session.

Prince Edward County Engagement Session - Sandra and Anthony

This Christmas Eve, Diego and I have been reminiscing about our favorite moments from 2018, and especially today, with this snowy weather outside, one of the engagement shoots that we’ve been reflecting on fondly is the full day engagement shoot we did this summer with Sandra and Anthony in Prince Edward County.
