Tobermory Engagement Photos
I gotta be honest, Diego and I are a bit of weirdos. We love us a bit of rain and drizzle for engagement shoots. It gives the engagement photos this ethereal feel, an added charm. Plus we get to play with puddle reflections, which you know we love oh so much! But this year, we’ve had enough! While we normally don’t reschedule engagement shoots because of the rain, this year there have been severe wind and rain storms, which isn’t as charming anymore. So when Tobermory and Bruce Peninsula National Park were chosen as the location for Carly and Mike’s engagement shoot, all Diego and I could do was cross our fingers and toes, and pray that the rain takes a break and lets us enjoy our full day engagement shoot at Tobermory raindrop-free.
Tobermory and the surrounding Bruce Peninsula area are about 3.5 hours drive north of Toronto, so we set out on our adventure in the morning, planning to stop by Tobermory village before heading to Bruce Peninsula National Park to climb atop the Grotto, a cave carved out by the waves, and look across the crystal-clear blue waters of Georgian Bay that make the place so unique and special. When we arrived in the town of Tobermory, we headed straight for the ice cream for a much needed sugar boost to get us pumped up after the long car ride. Tobermory is actually a harbour town, with many boats docked all around the harbour. As we were walking around, we were saying how cool it would be to do some of the engagement photos on one of the boats. Carly, seeing one of the boats’ owners, didn’t skip a bit and immediately asked permission to climb aboard one of the private boats and snap a few photos on deck, and since it’s hard to say no to love, the boat owner congratulated Carly and Mike on their engagement and happily obliged.
Getting to the Grotto, our next destination point, required a bit of hiking and exploring. We tracked through the forest, came a cross a lighthouse, and climbed over rocks, to eventually come up to the cliffs looking over Georgian Bay. As many times as I’ve heard how beautiful Tobermory is, you truly have to see it with your own eyes. The water is unreal and the Grotto is magical! We could have easily been somewhere in the Caribbean! As the sun started to set, Carly and Mike sat down on the edge of the rocks to enjoy some champagne before heading back home. Carly, inspired by an awesomely silly engagement shoot we did last year at Evergreen Brickwork, wanted to recreate one of the most epic shots of that engagement shoot and grabbed a champagne glass in each hand for herself, and gave Mike the bottle to chug the champagne! This, of course, resulted in huge fits of laughter from everyone! We absolutely LOVE it when couples are ready to have fun, get silly, and just be themselves. Nothing beats capturing the huge genuine smiles and big bellied laughs of our couples on their engagement shoots, and if we can do that on top of the Grotto at Tobermory, well that’s just an added bonus! :)

This Christmas Eve, Diego and I have been reminiscing about our favorite moments from 2018, and especially today, with this snowy weather outside, one of the engagement shoots that we’ve been reflecting on fondly is the full day engagement shoot we did this summer with Sandra and Anthony in Prince Edward County.
