Prince of Wales Hotel Wedding in Niagara on the Lake with Valentine’s Day Romance, Snow, and One Very Fancy Mannequin | Francine and Gord

Prince of Wales Hotel Wedding in Niagara on the Lake on Valentine’s Day

The first wedding of the year always hits a little different.

You spend the winter catching your breath, charging batteries, cleaning gear, organizing drives, pretending you are going to take it easy for a bit, and then suddenly it is wedding morning again. That first one back always feels exciting. Like, okay, we are doing this again. Let’s go.

And honestly, starting the year with a Valentine’s Day wedding at Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara on the Lake felt like the most perfect way to jump back in.

Francine and Gord got married on February 14, 2026, right in the middle of winter, inside one of the most romantic hotels in Niagara on the Lake. Everything happened at Prince of Wales Hotel, which made the day feel calm, elegant, and easy in the best possible way. No rushing between locations, no random travel chaos, no trying to squeeze portraits into a weird parking lot beside three delivery trucks. Just a beautiful historic hotel, winter light, rich colours, flowers, candles, champagne, and a couple who really trusted us to play.

Chelsey and I had already photographed their engagement session in Niagara on the Lake, so going into the wedding day felt extra fun. We knew their energy. We knew they were a bit nervous in the sweetest way, but also totally willing to have fun with it. And that is my favourite combination. Give me people who care deeply, feel a little awkward at first, laugh through the nerves, and then slowly realize they are actually crushing it in front of the camera. That was Francine and Gord all day.

Getting Ready Inside Prince of Wales Hotel

The morning started in the bridal suite at Prince of Wales Hotel, with Francine getting ready with her girls. Hair and makeup were already almost done when we arrived, and she looked stunning before the dress was even on. Tiara ready, soft glam, old money princess energy, fully understood the assignment.

One of my favourite parts of the morning came from something Francine and I had talked about before the wedding. She had asked what could make the getting ready photos feel a little more elevated, and somehow we landed on the idea of using a mannequin for the wedding dress.

Now, I know that sounds random, but trust me, it worked.

Francine actually found one, and not just any mannequin. This thing had style. The dress looked incredible on it, and it gave the whole room this fashion editorial feeling without making anything feel too serious. The dress became part of the story of the morning instead of just something hanging in a window for five minutes. It was in the background while the girls were getting ready, it added shape and drama to the room, and yes, we absolutely took it into the hotel hallway for some creative wedding dress photos because obviously we had to.

I love when couples bring ideas like this into the day. Not because every wedding needs a mannequin, please do not start panic buying mannequins unless you really want to, but because it shows they are thinking about the photos as part of the experience. They wanted something fun, beautiful, and a little different. That is exactly the kind of stuff that gets me excited.

Before the dress went on, we had champagne in bed with the bridesmaids, pajama photos, flat lay details, and those sweet in between moments where everyone is laughing but also very aware that the day is starting to feel real.

Then Francine’s mom helped her into the dress, and the whole mood shifted.

That is always one of those moments I try not to over direct. You can feel when it matters. The hands adjusting fabric, the quiet face of a mom realizing her daughter is about to walk into a completely new chapter, the bride taking in the mirror for the first time. Francine’s dress had this beautiful romantic shape, and with the tiara, the train, and the whole Valentine’s Day setting, the look really came together. It was elegant, classic, and just dramatic enough.

Meanwhile, Gord was getting ready right down the hall, which made the logistics super easy. His side was more casual, funny, and relaxed, including the very important requested no pants photo. A true groom morning classic.

A First Look in the Hampton Court Room

Francine and Gord planned their first look in the ceremony space, and I am so glad they did.

The Hampton Court Room at Prince of Wales Hotel was already set with this beautiful heart shaped floral arch by Clippings Floral Design. For a Valentine’s Day wedding, it was perfect. Romantic without feeling cheesy. Sweet without feeling like a grocery store Valentine’s display exploded. The heart shape gave the ceremony space a clear focal point, and it photographed beautifully.

We placed Gord facing the arch, then had Francine walk down the aisle toward him. I loved that. She was walking the same aisle she would walk again later for the ceremony, but this time it was just the two of them, without the full room watching. It made the first look feel intimate and a little cinematic.

Gord turned around, saw her for the first time, and the whole thing felt soft, happy, and real. Not overly staged. Not dramatic for the sake of being dramatic. Just a beautiful little pause in the day where they could see each other, breathe, laugh, and remember that this was actually happening.

And because the floral arch was right there, we started portraits in the ceremony space immediately after. This is one of the reasons a first look can be so useful at a hotel wedding. You get to use the space while it is quiet, while makeup is fresh, while the room is untouched, and before guests start arriving. For couples planning a Prince of Wales Hotel wedding, that kind of timing really helps. The hotel has so many beautiful indoor spots, but having the ceremony room ready early gives you one more strong portrait location without needing to leave the building.

Winter Wedding Portraits in Niagara on the Lake

After the first look, we moved into portraits around the hotel.

Prince of Wales Hotel is a dream for wedding photography because it has such a strong personality. It is not one of those blank modern hotel spaces where you have to fight to make the photos feel interesting. There are colours, textures, hallways, staircases, old world details, patterned spaces, warm lighting, and all these little corners that give you options.

Francine and Gord wanted a mix of classic portraits, creative portraits, and candid moments, which is exactly my favourite zone to work in. We did the clean romantic portraits in front of the heart shaped floral arch. We used the hotel interiors for a more editorial feel. We played with the gold hallway, the lobby, and the staircase energy. Then, of course, we went outside.

Because if you are having a winter wedding in Niagara on the Lake and there is snow, we are going outside.

I know winter portraits can feel scary at first. It is cold, the dress is not exactly a parka, and everyone is pretending they are fine while their hands slowly disappear. But the payoff is so worth it. Snow changes the whole feeling of the photos. It softens everything. It gives the portraits this romantic, winter storybook feeling without needing to force anything.

We kept it quick, fun, and practical. That is the trick. You do not need to freeze for forty five minutes to get great winter wedding photos. You need a good plan, fast direction, and a couple who is willing to commit for a few minutes. Francine and Gord absolutely did.

We also made time for wedding party photos and family portraits around the hotel. Since everything was happening in one location, the day had this really nice flow. Nobody was stuck waiting around forever. Nobody had to get on a bus. We could move from one space to another, create variety, and still keep the day feeling relaxed.

That is one of the biggest benefits of a Prince of Wales Hotel wedding. The venue gives you enough variety for photos without making you leave the property, but you are also right in the middle of Niagara on the Lake if you want to step outside for a few portraits near the street, the fountain, or the clock tower area.

A Romantic Wedding Ceremony With a Rose Exchange

The ceremony took place at 4:30 PM in the Hampton Court Room, with the heart shaped floral arch framing everything.

By this point, the room felt completely different from the first look. Guests were seated, the energy was up, and all those quiet morning nerves had turned into the real thing. The aisle, the florals, the soft romantic setup, the winter light outside, it all worked together so well.

Francine and Gord included a rose exchange ceremony, which was a really sweet touch. Small rituals like that always photograph beautifully because they give people something to do with their hands, but more importantly, they slow the ceremony down for a second. It becomes less about getting through the script and more about actually feeling the moment.

After the ceremony, they had a flower petal send off, and it added such a joyful burst of movement to the room. Red rose petals, big smiles, guests cheering, and that perfect just married energy that always feels a little chaotic in the best way.

They also wanted one big group photo of everyone after the ceremony, and because the room was narrow, it actually worked really well. Sometimes a tight space is a nightmare, but sometimes it helps organize the shot. Everyone stayed close, the couple came back into the aisle, and we were able to create a full guest photo that still felt connected to the ceremony space.

Cocktail Hour and a Candlelit Reception in the Victoria and Albert Ballroom

After the ceremony, guests moved into cocktail hour near the reception space, with a piano player adding to the atmosphere. With around forty guests plus the wedding party, the whole wedding had this intimate but still full feeling. Big enough to feel like a celebration, small enough that people actually knew each other and wanted to talk.

The reception took place in the Victoria and Albert Ballroom at Prince of Wales Hotel, and it looked exactly how a Valentine’s Day wedding reception should look. Romantic, warm, candlelit, and full of charm.

The candles made such a difference for the photos. I always say this, but reception lighting matters so much. You can have beautiful flowers and beautiful linens, but when you add candlelight, everything feels richer. It gives skin tone warmth, it adds depth to the room, and it makes the reception photos feel alive instead of flat.

The head table had this royal feeling to it. Not medieval, I almost said medieval at first and immediately regretted it, but royal. That is the word. The way Francine and Gord sat together, with the florals, candles, and formal setup around them, made the whole thing feel elegant and romantic without becoming stiff.

Boutique Linen Rentals helped shape the reception design, and the florals from Clippings Floral Design carried the Valentine’s Day feeling through the room beautifully. It all felt intentional. Red tones, romance, candlelight, classic hotel atmosphere. It made sense for them, for the date, and for the venue.

First Dance, Speeches, Champagne Tower, and Cake Cutting

Francine and Gord went straight from their grand entrance into their first dance, which I always love from a photography perspective. The energy is already high, everyone is paying attention, and the couple has not sat down yet. It gives the first dance this immediate emotional punch.

Their speeches were emotional and funny, which is honestly the best combination. People laughed a lot, and there were also those quieter reactions that make reception coverage so important. Speeches are not just about photographing the person holding the microphone. The best photos are often the reactions. A parent trying not to cry. A friend absolutely losing it laughing. The couple looking at each other like, yep, these are our people.

Later in the evening, they did the cake cutting with a beautiful cake from Criveller Cakes. The cake looked elegant and fit the whole day perfectly. Nothing too over the top, just classy and polished.

Then came the champagne tower.

I love a champagne tower. It gives people something fun to gather around, it photographs beautifully, and it brings a little bit of drama into the reception without needing to manufacture a moment. It is one of those things that feels fancy but also playful, which was very much the vibe of the night.

DJ Jon from Pinnacle DJing Services kept the evening moving, and the whole reception had a really nice balance of formal moments and fun energy. The timeline had a lot packed into it, but because Francine and Gord had planned their priorities clearly, we were able to cover the important pieces without making the day feel like a photo checklist.

A Sparkler Exit Outside Prince of Wales Hotel

At the end of the night, we still had time for a sparkler exit outside Prince of Wales Hotel. And I am so glad we did.

Sparkler exits can be a little wild. Someone always lights too early, someone is scared of fire, someone holds the sparkler directly in front of their own face, and everyone suddenly forgets where to stand. But when it works, it works.

Outside the hotel, in the winter night, with Francine and Gord walking through their people, it felt like the perfect ending to the day. A little cinematic, a little chaotic, very happy, and very them.

It was also such a beautiful full circle moment for the wedding. The day started with quiet nerves and champagne in pajamas. Then came the tiara, the dress on the mannequin, the first look under the heart arch, snowy portraits, rose petals, candlelight, speeches, champagne tower, cake, and finally sparklers outside the hotel.

For a first wedding of the year, this one gave us everything.

Why Prince of Wales Hotel Is Such a Good Wedding Venue for Photos

If you are planning a wedding at Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara on the Lake, this venue has a lot going for it from a photography perspective.

The biggest thing is variety. You can get ready, have your ceremony, take portraits, host cocktail hour, and celebrate your reception all in one place. That makes the day feel smoother, especially in winter when the weather can be unpredictable.

The interiors also have a strong visual style. The hotel has colour, texture, and classic character, which means your photos can feel rich and different without needing to force it. You can create romantic portraits, editorial portraits, family photos, documentary moments, and reception coverage all within the same property.

For winter weddings, that is a huge win. You still have the option to step outside for snow photos, but you are not relying on outdoor locations to carry the whole portrait session. You can stay warm, move quickly, and still create a full gallery with a lot of variety.

And if you are getting married on Valentine’s Day, well, a heart shaped floral arch inside Prince of Wales Hotel is not a bad place to start.

Final Thoughts

Francine and Gord’s Prince of Wales Hotel wedding felt romantic, stylish, emotional, funny, and very personal. It had all the big visual things you want from a Valentine’s Day wedding in Niagara on the Lake, but what made it special was how much of the day still felt like them.

They were nervous at times, but they trusted the process. They wanted real moments, but they were also down for creative portraits. They cared about the details, but they cared even more about the people. And that is always the sweet spot.

This wedding was such a good reminder that the best photos usually come from a mix of planning and letting go. You plan the timeline. You pick the venue. You bring the mannequin. You make space for the first look, the portraits, the champagne tower, the sparkler exit. Then, when the day comes, you let it breathe.

And that is where the good stuff happens.

Planning a Wedding at Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara on the Lake?

If you are planning a Prince of Wales Hotel wedding, a Niagara on the Lake wedding, or a winter wedding in Ontario, I would love to photograph it.

If you want wedding photos that feel candid, artistic, warm, and not cookie cutter, you are probably in the right place.

Bring the champagne. Bring the nerves. Bring the wild photo idea.
