Creative Engagement Photos in Toronto That Actually Feel Like You

March 27, 2026 Diego Moura
Toronto engagement photographer capturing a creative silhouette of a couple under a blue sky, candid and cinematic pre wedding photo

When people think about engagement photos in Toronto, they usually picture parks, skyline views, maybe a golden sunset by the lake. And don’t get me wrong, I love those sessions. But sometimes the best photos happen when you throw all of that out the window and just lean into what actually feels like you.

That’s exactly what we did for this session. This wasn’t about chasing light or finding the most aesthetic location. This was about creating something fun, personal, and a little unexpected. Something that felt more like a date night than a photoshoot.
And yeah… it ended up winning a Best Wedding Collection Award with Inspiration Photographers, which is still wild to me. But honestly, the award is just a bonus. The real win is how this session feels. 🔗See The Award Winning Collection

Why Creative Engagement Photos Hit Different

Here’s the thing most people don’t realize. The best engagement photos are not about the location. They’re about the experience. If you feel awkward, the photos will feel awkward. If you feel like yourself, everything changes. That’s why I always tell my couples, forget trying to make it look like Pinterest. Let’s make it feel like you.

For this session, that meant arcade games, neon lights, competition, laughing at each other, and just being fully in it. No pressure to pose perfectly. No overthinking. Just movement, energy, and moments that actually happened. That’s where the magic is.

Arcade Engagement Session in Toronto

We started the session inside an arcade in Toronto, surrounded by old school consoles, glowing screens, and that mix of colours you just can’t fake. Right away, everything felt different.
Instead of standing still and trying to “get the shot”, they were playing, reacting, getting into it. That’s when I step back and let things unfold. That’s where candid photography lives.

There’s something about low light and neon that pushes creativity too. You stop relying on perfect conditions and start building images. Shadows, reflections, motion, colour. It all becomes part of the story. Some of my favourite frames from this session came from moments that lasted half a second. A reaction. A laugh. A look. You can’t plan those. You just have to be ready for them.

From Fun To Something Unexpected

What I love about sessions like this is the contrast. We went from playful and chaotic energy inside the arcade to something a bit more calm and cinematic later on. Same couple, same connection, completely different feel. That balance is what makes a gallery feel complete. You get the fun, the personality, the weird little moments. But you also get those frames that feel timeless, the ones that hit a bit deeper. That mix is everything.

Award Winning, But Still Real

This collection ended up receiving a Best Wedding Collection Award from Inspiration Photographers, which is always an honour. But if I’m being real, I don’t shoot for awards. I shoot for that moment when a couple looks at their photos and says, “this is us.” Not a version of them. Not something staged. Just them. The award just means other photographers connected with it too.

Thinking About Your Own Engagement Session?

If you’re planning your engagement photos in Toronto and you want something that actually feels like you, here’s the only thing that matters: Do something you’d actually do together. Go for drinks. Walk your neighbourhood. Hit an arcade. Stay in and cook. Whatever it is, that’s your session. The location doesn’t make the photos. You do. And if you want someone to document it in a way that feels natural, creative, and a little different from everything else you’re seeing online, I’m in.
