Casa Loma and Eglinton Grand Wedding in Toronto – Alicia & Joel

Casa Loma and Eglinton Grand Wedding in Toronto

Some Toronto weddings feel like they were built for the camera from the second the day starts. Alicia and Joel’s wedding was absolutely one of those.

Their day had that rare mix of elegance, emotion, chaos, style, and full party energy that makes a wedding feel alive. We started at the Kimpton St. George Hotel, moved into an emotional ceremony at Casa Loma, stopped for portraits at Alexander Muir Park, and ended the night with a full reception at The Eglinton Grand. That is a very good Toronto wedding route right there.

As a Toronto wedding photographer, I always love when a wedding gives us different layers throughout the day. Casa Loma gave us the romance, history, architecture, and drama. The Eglinton Grand brought the old Hollywood feeling, the marquee, the theatre lights, and that cinematic reception energy. Together, they created a wedding day that felt elegant without being stiff, stylish without feeling forced, and emotional in all the right places.

And honestly, Alicia and Joel were the perfect couple for it. They trusted the process, they brought the energy, and they gave us room to make photos that felt classic, fun, and a little bit extra in the best possible way.

Getting Ready at Kimpton St. George Hotel

We started the morning at the Kimpton St. George Hotel in Toronto, and this was such a strong choice for getting ready photos. The hotel has a cool, modern, artistic look without feeling too polished or boring, which makes it a great space for wedding photography before heading to a venue like Casa Loma.

Alicia got ready in the presidential suite with her people around her, and the room had that perfect morning energy. A little bit of calm, a little bit of chaos, lots of laughter, and everyone slowly realizing that the day was actually happening. Haley McIntosh did the makeup and Melek Chevket styled the hair, and both of them helped set such an easy, relaxed tone in the room.

That matters more than people realize. The getting ready part of a wedding day can feel rushed if the energy is off, but this morning had such a good flow. Alicia looked incredible in her Bella Mia Bridal dress, and the whole room had this feeling of excitement without everyone spiraling into wedding day stress mode.

The Kimpton also gave us a few creative portrait options before we even left the building. The suite had beautiful light, and the lobby had some really fun design elements that worked so well for a few more editorial style photos. I always love when a hotel gives you more than just a clean room. A little texture, a little mood, and a few interesting corners can make a big difference.

A Wedding Ceremony at Casa Loma

Casa Loma is one of those Toronto wedding venues that just does not need much explaining. It has the castle, the gardens, the stone, the architecture, and that feeling that you are suddenly not in the middle of Toronto anymore.

Alicia and Joel had their ceremony in the Conservatory, which is one of the most beautiful indoor ceremony spaces in the city. The glass ceiling, the light, the greenery, the marble, and the historic details all work together in a way that feels romantic without needing to be overdone. Plush Flowers added floral styling that fit the space beautifully and made the ceremony feel warm, elegant, and full of life.

But the best part was not just the room. It was the emotion.

Joel’s reaction when Alicia walked down the aisle was one of those moments you hope for as a wedding photographer. It was real, immediate, and full of feeling. No posing, no forcing, just a person fully taking in the moment. That is always the stuff that matters most.

One of my favourite parts of the ceremony was when Alicia and Joel surprised their moms and grandma with floral wrist corsages. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and it added this extra emotional layer to the ceremony. Those are the moments that make a wedding feel personal. Not just beautiful, but personal.

Casa Loma wedding photos can easily become all about the venue, because obviously the venue is stunning. But the real goal is always to make sure the people still come first. The architecture is there to support the story, not take over the story.

Casa Loma Wedding Portraits

After the ceremony, we stayed at Casa Loma for portraits, which is always a good idea if you are getting married there. There are so many different photo options without having to leave the property, and that makes the timeline feel smoother.

We used the Conservatory first, because that room is honestly hard to beat. The light, the stained glass, the marble floor, the greenery, and Alicia’s dress all came together so beautifully. It had that classic Casa Loma wedding look that couples search for, but it still felt like them.

Then we moved into the Library for something more dramatic. This is where Casa Loma really shines for couples who want wedding photos that feel a little more cinematic. The darker wood, chandeliers, reflections, and moody light create a completely different feeling from the bright Conservatory. I love when a venue gives you contrast like that, because the final gallery has more range.

Alicia and Joel were so good in this part of the day. They were comfortable, playful, and totally open to trying things. That trust is huge. The best portraits usually happen when couples are willing to commit to the photo a little, even if the setup feels funny for a second.

We also stepped outside for a few portraits around the gardens. Casa Loma in spring has such a soft, romantic look, and the outdoor areas gave us a nice shift from the indoor castle feeling. It is one of the reasons Casa Loma is such a strong venue for Toronto wedding photography. You can get elegant indoor portraits, dramatic editorial portraits, garden portraits, and classic architecture all in one place.

Family Photos at Alexander Muir Park

After Casa Loma, we made a stop at Alexander Muir Park for family portraits. This was a smart move because it gave everyone a little breathing room and gave us a clean, natural backdrop for family photos before heading to The Eglinton Grand.

Family portraits can sometimes feel like the most formal part of the day, but I still try to keep them moving and relaxed. The goal is to get the important combinations done properly without killing the mood or making everyone feel trapped in a photo lineup forever.

Alexander Muir Park worked really well for that. It gave us greenery, space, and a calmer setting before the reception energy kicked in. For couples planning a wedding with multiple Toronto locations, having a simple portrait location like this between venues can help the timeline feel less hectic.

Reception at The Eglinton Grand

The reception at The Eglinton Grand had such a different energy from Casa Loma, and that contrast is what made the day so good.

Casa Loma gave us the romantic castle ceremony. The Eglinton Grand gave us the theatre, the lights, the marquee, the art deco details, and that old Hollywood feeling that always photographs beautifully. It is one of the best Toronto wedding venues if you want your reception to feel cinematic.

Before the reception started, Alicia changed into a black dress, and yes, it was absolutely the right move. It brought a completely different energy to the evening and worked so well with the vintage theatre look of The Eglinton Grand. I love a dress change when it actually fits the feeling of the night, and this one really did.

We also had a blue 1950s convertible from Freddy Mercury Events outside the venue, which was such a perfect match for the marquee and the art deco exterior. Those portraits outside The Eglinton Grand are always iconic, but adding the car gave everything a little more personality. It felt stylish, fun, and very Toronto in that vintage movie night kind of way.

The Eglinton Grand wedding reception space looked amazing with decor by Chair Decor, florals by Plush Flowers, and cake by Just Temptations. Everything worked with the venue instead of fighting it, which is important in a space with such a strong personality. When the design respects the venue, the photos feel way more cohesive.

The First Dance on Stage

One of the coolest parts about weddings at The Eglinton Grand is the stage reveal.

Alicia and Joel had their first dance on the main stage, and the curtain opened to reveal them to their guests. It is such a good moment because it feels theatrical in the best way. Not cheesy, not over the top, just a little bit of drama that actually fits the venue.

As a wedding photographer, I love this setup because it gives the first dance a clear visual story. The curtain, the stage lights, the theatre seating, the guests watching, all of it makes the moment feel bigger without needing to manufacture anything.

The Eglinton Grand is not just a reception hall. It has history, shape, mood, and movement. That is why it works so well for wedding photography. You can photograph speeches, dances, reactions, and party moments in a way that feels layered and cinematic.

A High Energy Eglinton Grand Wedding Reception

Once the reception started, the energy never really dropped. Sole Power Productions kept the dance floor moving, the speeches had the right mix of emotion and laughter, and the whole night had that feeling of people who were genuinely excited to celebrate.

That is always my favourite kind of reception. Not the one where everything is technically perfect, but the one where people are fully in it. The laughs are real, the hugs are real, the dance floor is messy in the best way, and everyone forgets about the camera after a while.

Those are the photos couples usually end up loving the most. The unplanned reactions, the funny dance moves, the emotional speeches, the little moments happening between the big scheduled moments. That is where the story really lives.

Alicia and Joel’s wedding at The Eglinton Grand had all of that. It had style, but it also had personality. It had beautiful details, but it never became only about the details. It felt like them, and that is always the goal.

Why Casa Loma and The Eglinton Grand Work So Well Together

If you are planning a Toronto wedding and considering Casa Loma for your ceremony and The Eglinton Grand for your reception, this combination makes a lot of sense visually.

Casa Loma brings that romantic, elegant, historic feeling. It gives you ceremony photos that feel grand, timeless, and very Toronto. The Conservatory is especially strong for couples who want an indoor ceremony space with natural light and a lot of character.

The Eglinton Grand brings a totally different kind of drama. It is darker, moodier, more cinematic, and perfect for couples who want a reception with personality. The marquee portraits alone are worth building time into the timeline.

Together, the two venues give your wedding gallery a lot of range. You get castle portraits, garden portraits, editorial indoor portraits, vintage theatre portraits, and a reception that actually feels different from the ceremony. That variety is such a gift for wedding photography.

The biggest planning tip is to leave enough time between locations. Toronto traffic is real, and moving from Casa Loma to family photos to The Eglinton Grand needs a timeline that does not feel too tight. When there is room to breathe, the photos get better because nobody feels rushed.
