Same-Sex Engagement Session at Rouge National Urban Park | Adam & Geoff
Not every couple wants their engagement photos to feel overly posed or polished — and honestly, I love that. Adam and Geoff’s session at Rouge National Urban Park was one of those rare afternoons where everything felt completely natural and real.
These two weren’t here to perform or stage moments. They were just there to be together. And when you have that kind of connection in front of the camera — mixed with a killer golden hour and one of the most scenic natural spaces in the GTA — you get something truly unforgettable.
Why Rouge National Urban Park Is a Hidden Gem for Engagement Sessions
Located on the edge of Toronto, Rouge National Urban Park is one of the most underrated engagement shoot locations in the city. It’s quiet. It’s wild. It’s full of open skies, tall grasses, trails, and that golden, late-day light that wraps around everything like a blanket.
For same-sex couples looking for a peaceful, romantic backdrop without the usual crowd of downtown spots, this park is a dream. It gave us so much space to explore, breathe, and just let moments unfold naturally.
Candid, Real & Wildly in Love
One of my favourite things about photographing LGBTQ+ couples is how beautifully untraditional their sessions often feel. There’s a certain freedom and trust in the process that lets me create without rules — and Adam and Geoff were so down for that.
They ran, they danced, they paused to take it all in. The way they laughed together? You can’t fake that. The way they held each other? That’s the stuff I want every photo to feel like. No forced smiles. No Pinterest poses. Just two people in love, letting the world fall away for a moment.
Let’s Talk About Light (Because… Wow)
Golden hour hit differently that day. As we moved toward the open field near the end of the session, the sun dipped low and everything lit up in the kind of glow that makes you feel the photo, not just see it. I played with silhouettes, flares, and contrast — and Adam and Geoff gave me everything I needed by just being completely themselves.
This session turned out to be one of my personal favourites. Not just for the photos, but for the energy.
Planning Your Own LGBTQ+ Engagement Session?
Whether you’re planning a surprise proposal, engagement shoot, or just want to document your love without a specific occasion — I always say: do it your way. Bring your sneakers. Wear something bold. Go somewhere wild. What matters most is that the space and the vibe reflect you.
If you’re looking for a Toronto photographer who gets it — someone who creates space for real moments, queer love, and storytelling that doesn’t follow the rulebook — I’d love to help tell your story.

One of the perks of being a wedding photographer is that you get to discover your own city and its surroundings. There are so many hidden gems around, so many parks and historic locations that we’d have never heard of if it weren’t for our awesome couples. Just last month, Christina and Travis introduced us to Rouge National Urban Park.
Shooting at an abandoned location of some sorts has been on the bucket list for Diego and I for quite some time. There is just something so eery and fun at the same time about abandoned locations - maybe it’s all the colourful graffiti that often covers the walls of abandoned places, or the bursts of light that come through the broken windows and cracks in the ceilings, but whatever it is, we saw the potential of creating some epic shots in an abandoned place and we couldn’t wait for an adventurous couple to take us up on the idea of shooting their engagement photos at such a spot. Jenn and Arvin were just that couple!
