There are engagement sessions… and then there are engagement adventures.
Alex and Andrew’s shoot at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory was a total dream — vibrant, intimate, and unforgettable.
From Bridal Show to Butterflies 🦋
We first met Alex and Andrew at the National Bridal Show — and between her electric pink hair and infectious energy, Alex made an impression right away. When they told us they were thinking about the Butterfly Conservatory for their engagement session, our answer was instant: Yes, yes, yes.
We always tell our couples: Choose a location that means something to you. Something different. Something that sparks joy.
And since we’d never shot at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory before, this was the perfect kind of new.
Humidity, Hidden Gems & Magic Moments
We arrived early — cameras in hand and humidity warnings in place. The inside of the conservatory? Tropical and dreamy. And honestly? The warmth was worth it. We had the entire place to ourselves for an hour before school field trips started rolling in, which gave us time to explore every little detail.
From lush greenery and hanging bistro lights to turtles, waterfalls, and bright blue butterflies, this spot was a playground for creativity. And Alex’s pink hair and flowy dress? They absolutely popped against the green — it was like the space was made for them.
The Butterfly Release Moment
The highlight? A butterfly release.
Alex and Andrew were handed a box full of sleeping butterflies and told to gently tap the bottom to wake them up. Let’s just say… they were very sleepy butterflies.
A few fluttered out right away, creating a moment of pure magic and wonder — the kind you can’t stage. Alex’s expression was everything. The rest of the butterflies took their sweet time, but that gave us a chance to capture them up close, gently landing on shoulders, arms, and even hair. Pure fairytale vibes.
A Breath of Fresh Air (Literally)
After an hour inside the steamy conservatory, we stepped outside into the cool morning air. A few final shots, a lot of laughs, and one very happy couple later — the shoot wrapped up just as the buses full of field trip kids began to roll in. Perfect timing.

This Christmas Eve, Diego and I have been reminiscing about our favorite moments from 2018, and especially today, with this snowy weather outside, one of the engagement shoots that we’ve been reflecting on fondly is the full day engagement shoot we did this summer with Sandra and Anthony in Prince Edward County. The full day engagement shoot we did with Sandra and Anthony was a perfect Sunday Funday.

It always surprises us how many amazing and cool spots there in Ontario, not too far from Toronto, that are just perfect for an engagement shoot.
