On a rainy Sunday morning in Toronto, just before the city started to buzz, we met up with Rachel and Rishi at the Istanbul Café & Espresso Bar — the exact spot where their love story began. It was 8:50am, and even in the drizzle, there was already a line forming outside. That’s when you know a place has something special.
This Turkish coffee shop, nestled in the heart of Yonge and Eglinton, was glowing inside. Literally. The warm light from the mosaic lanterns cast a golden hue over everything — from the hanging glass décor to the cozy corners. It felt more like a scene from a romantic film than a regular Sunday morning.
Where It All Began
Rachel and Rishi met here for their very first date. And now, years later, they were sitting at that same tiny table in the back — only this time, as soon-to-be husband and wife. Coffee in hand, Rose Latte in the other, hearts clearly full.
Before we started shooting, Rachel admitted they were both a little nervous in front of the camera. Totally normal. So we did what we always do — started with a story. We asked about their first date. Her eyes lit up immediately as she talked about their quick 30-minute coffee — a date that unintentionally changed her entire life. Rishi had no idea, but his words that day made Rachel rethink a job abroad… and well, here we are.
From that moment on, the nerves melted. The laughter came naturally. The smiles weren’t posed. They were just… them.
The Café That Let Us Play
One of the best things about this shoot? Istanbul Café let us get creative. We explored every corner of the shop, captured sweet moments at the counter, and even snuck behind the bar for some candid shots (with permission, of course!). The team was so warm and welcoming — and the bonus coffee refills? No complaints there.
Maybe it was the caffeine. Perhaps it was the magic of being back where it all began. But these two were glowing the whole time.
Why We Love Engagement Shoots Like This
These intimate, personal sessions are some of our favourites to photograph. It’s not about posing — it’s about capturing a real connection in a place that means something to you. Whether it’s a rainy coffee date in Toronto or your go-to weekend brunch spot, you don’t need a big backdrop to create meaningful photos. Just a little comfort, a little intention, and a whole lot of love.

We’re always down for something different — even better if it comes with coffee.

Scheduling a winter engagement shoot is always a little tricky - the conditions need to be just right! So many factors have to be taken into consideration, like is there going to be enough snow to capture the essence of a Canadian winter, or is it going to be too cold for comfort. It definitely takes a special couple, like Hema and Dileep, brave and committed, to rock a winter engagement shoot!
Choosing a location for an engagement shoot often seems to be a challenge for couples. Many gravitate towards the popular spots around Toronto, but Diego and I always encourage couples to choose an engagement shoot location that has meaning to them, that is unique, or that they just absolutely love. When Donna and Daneil mentioned that they were considering doing their engagement shoot in Hamilton, at the Dundas community fire station where Daneil is a fireman, we jumped at the opportunity. How often do you get the chance to do a photoshoot at a fire station? Not often, that’s for sure!
Living in Toronto, we are very lucky to have Niagara-on-the-Lake so close by. Everywhere you turn, there is a winery, and shooting in a winery is always such a treat. The smells, the views, the atmosphere, it's all so romantic and it sets the perfect mood for an engagement photoshoot. While researching possible wineries for Emily and Manuel's winery engagement photoshoot, we came across Konzelmann Estate Winery
