After-Dark Trillium Park Engagement Photos | A Creative Toronto Night Session with Jess & Jay

✨ Trillium Park Engagement Photos | Jess & Jay’s After-Dark Adventure in Toronto

Some engagement sessions just hit differently — and Jess & Jay’s nighttime shoot at Trillium Park is one I’ll never forget. From the first time we met at their home, I knew this wasn’t going to be your average engagement session. These two were creative, stylish, and had a clear vision: they didn’t want “just another sunset shoot.” They wanted magic after dark — and that’s exactly what we created.

A Sunset to Remember at Trillium Park

We timed our shoot perfectly to catch the last light of the day, with the golden hues of sunset melting into deep reds and oranges over the Toronto skyline. That early evening light at Trillium Park gave us such a soft, cinematic glow — the kind of atmosphere that makes everything feel a little extra romantic. We started near the water’s edge with Lake Ontario behind us, just as the city lights began to twinkle to life. And yes… I even took a little tumble during the shoot (for the first time ever 😂), but nothing could stop us from chasing the light.

Creating Art in the Dark 🌌

The real magic happened as night fell. Most engagement shoots wrap up by dusk — but this session was just getting started. We didn’t rush to new locations. Instead, we embraced the hidden nooks of Trillium Park — every soft light, lamp post, and reflective surface became part of the story. We played with light and shadow, long exposures, and a bit of creative flash work to highlight their connection and let the city become our backdrop.

This shoot reminded me a little of a winter session I once did at the Winter Light Exhibition, but the vibe here was totally different: warm, moody, intimate — and electric.

Bonus Location: Puente de Luz Night Portraits

After the park, we took a quick trip downtown to wrap up the session with something extra dramatic. I had been eyeing Puente de Luz for a while — it’s a beautifully structured pedestrian bridge that lights up at night, and we made it shine. With the CN Tower glowing in the background, a bit of atmosphere spray, and colored gels for drama, we created some of my favorite engagement images ever.

Jess and Jay were 100% up for anything — and their trust in the creative process is exactly why this session turned out the way it did.

Why This Session Worked

If you’re planning engagement photos at Trillium Park in Toronto, don’t be afraid to step outside the usual playbook. Consider:

  • Shooting after dark (with a pro who knows lighting 😉)

  • Wearing something bold or editorial

  • Choosing a location with variety: skyline, water, trees, architecture

  • Bringing your full energy and trust — it makes all the difference

This session was a reminder of why I love photography. When couples show up ready to create, with a vision and a sense of adventure, that’s when the real magic happens.

Jess and Jay — thank you for inspiring this wild, creative night. I can’t wait for the wedding.

Trillium Park on Toronto’s waterfront is one of our favourite spots to shoot at within the city. With every passing season, it feels like the park is transformed – with the ever-changing blooms and seasonal colours, we never quite know what to expect when we arrive at Trillium. But between the varied green spaces, unique sculptures and architecture, the gorgeous lake views, and the stunning Toronto skyline in the background,

Woodbine Beach Sunrise Engagement Shoot - Christine & Cesar

Let me tell you, Diego and I are not morning people. Not even a tiny bit. But when an amazingly cool couple, like Christine and Cesar, tells us they want to do a sunrise engagement shoot, we are out of bed and on site long before the couple has arrived. Unlike sunset engagement shoots, where we can take our time enjoying the sunset colours, the peak moments of a sunrise come and go in what feels like a few seconds, so we have to be prepared with ideas to take advantage of every beautiful moment.
